Improved BBM–Its all about protection!

Data Security remains biggest nightmare for modern day enterprises and Blackberry is synonymous with Enterprise offerings and security.

In line with the expectations, a leader in Mobile device management offerings, Blackberry introduced a secure version of its BBM (Blackberry Messenger) suite called “BBM Protected”.

The eBBM Suite for “secure enterprise-class messaging” offers an additional layer of encryption for BBM messages and is geared towards regulated and highly security-conscious organizations like banks, governments, law firms, and healthcare providers.

How BBM Protected works?

BBM Protected works on FIPS 140-2 Cryptographic module, which is a US Government computer security standard. This ensures that the message being shared between parties is encrypted on a four level security, and is not traceable by intruders or hackers.

It also takes care of security issues during voltage and temperature fluctuations and other environmental conditions. BBM Protected enable users to communicate provided they are present on any Blackberry server. Integrating with Blackberry Balance will help an individual to keep personal and professional data separate.

Benefits – BBM Protected?

There is a clear traction, which BBM Protected can leverage, especially in Banking & Financial Services, Government, Defense companies, Defense contractors, healthcare, data sensitive companies like Process Outsourcing companies, Services companies (Law firms, Audit firms etc.) dealing with large customer data.

This is also a good way to monetize services and create a dedicated revenue stream from corporate grade messaging.

Monk Mantra – IMPACT on Enterprise Mobility

Today enterprises have limited alternatives in this space. The biggest challenge faced by Blackberry is growing its services and installed base. BlackBerry remains serious work tool that provides protected services.

However it remains to be seen if enterprises users will be rejoicing, considering they have protected communications? The issues of flexibility and independence will definitely be discussed or voiced.

Having said that this will be a good step in terms of overall improvements and security in the instant messaging space. For competition this can be a challenging task ahead, with identity theft and data sensitivity growing. Competitors will be judge and will be asked to step-up. Competitors will start to work toward, improving the overall security scenario for Industry.
